Co-designed by Steven “Stevey G” Greitzer with Microbeau International, because the machine the craft needed didn’t exist.
SMP lives or dies at a fraction of a millimeter. Too deep and pigment migrates and blurs; too shallow and it exfoliates away. The Apollo’s 2.3 mm stroke was chosen for one act (the controlled, shallow, single impression) repeated thirty thousand times per scalp.
A hairline is decided in hours four through seven, when most machines have already worn the hand that holds them. At 106 grams, the Apollo is engineered for the artist’s endurance, because consistency at impression twenty-nine thousand is what separates realism from texture.
SMP runs low and slow, and most machines get unstable exactly there. The Apollo holds its behavior across a 4–9.5 V range, so the dot placed at the softest setting matches the dot placed at the strongest. One machine, one language, every skin type.
The Origin
For the first decade of scalp micropigmentation, every artist worked with borrowed equipment: tattoo machines built for lines and shading, pressed into a craft built on single points. Steven “Stevey G” Greitzer, practicing SMP since 2012, spent years modifying setups that were never designed for the work, and kept a running list of everything wrong with them.
That list became the brief. Working with Microbeau International, he co-designed the Apollo, the first machine engineered solely for SMP, from stroke length to weight distribution to its behavior at the low voltages the craft actually runs. It wasn’t an adaptation of a tattoo machine. It was a machine that started from the dot.
The Apollo is now in studios worldwide, and it’s one third of a larger system: the machine, the color theory that decides what it places, and the Perma Blend Reclaim & Restore pigments formulated to behave predictably under dilution. Every treatment at the Miami and New York studios is performed with all three.
